Open a book and let new adventures begin!!!
Children are made readers on the laps of their parents.
-Emilie Buchwald
This quote is an excellent reminder of the importance of reading to our children.  They benefit so much by being read to at home and it encourages a lifelong love of reading.  Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedules and reading to your children and for listening to them read!

Accelerated Reader Program
The Accelerated Reader program is designed to motivate students to read books, test and receive feedback, therefore providing a growth in their reading skills. Students either read a book independently or have one read aloud orally and then test on the book. The more questions answered correctly results in more points for the students. Students in grades K-3 may spend their points at the AR store for prizes and qualify for the end of year AR party. Students in grades 4-5 receive money vouchers for their points to be spent at the book fairs and qualify for the end of year AR party. The program encourages students through guided independent reading to develop comprehension skills, vocabulary, and fluency.

Texas Bluebonnet Award
Read 5 Then Decide
This statewide reading program is for students in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades. Every year the Texas Library Association nominates 20 new books for this award. Students have to read at least 5 of the books in order to vote for their favorite at the end of January. The vote totals are sent in to the state office, and a state-wide, student-selected winner is announced. Most award books are selected by adults. This program allows students to pick their favorite. To see the list, click on Texas Bluebonnet Award.
Book Fairs
We have three Scholastic Book Fairs scheduled this school year. Proceeds from the book fairs are used for storyteller visits, Accelerated Reader prizes, party supplies, motivational items, and books from non-standard vendors. PTO volunteers mainly run the book fair, and we couldn't do it without them! Teachers also make a "wish list" -- if you want to purchase a book for your child's classroom, look for the display.
